About Menty

The gym for your head

Menty is an AI-powered mental mentor for anyone who wants to work on themselves: no waiting lists, no barriers, no judgment. Through daily chat and voice sessions in natural Dutch, Menty helps people build their mental fitness step by step: personal 3-minute sessions, insights that stack up over time, and challenges that turn what you've learned into real life.

We're building Menty because support today usually only kicks in once things already feel too heavy. We believe there should be something that helps you move forward every single day: affordable, personal, and instantly available.

The app is live in the App Store, runs fully in production, and has paying users. Now we're scaling up: we're actively growing through online ads, and the tech needs to handle that growth effortlessly. That's where you come in.

The role

Technical owner of the platform

You'll become the technical owner of the Menty platform. You take over the full stack, from backend and mobile app to infrastructure, and drive it forward. This is a role with a lot of freedom and a lot of responsibility: you keep the platform reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient while the user base grows, and you're explicitly encouraged to propose and ship your own improvements.

A concrete taste of the work: our AI calls run through Vertex AI, where capacity, quotas, and rate limits (hi, 429s 👋) are real engineering challenges: think multi-region endpoints, retry and degradation strategies, provisioned throughput, and cost control per user. These are the scaling problems you'll solve structurally.

The backend is currently written in Go. Prefer Python? That works: we're open to migrating the backend to Python. That could even be your first project.

The same goes for the platform as a whole: we currently run on AWS (ECS, Aurora, ElastiCache) with OpenTofu and GitLab CI, but we're explicitly open to simplifying toward managed platforms like Supabase, Fly.io, or Railway if that reduces operational overhead and monthly costs without sacrificing reliability. You make that call and lead the migration if the business case holds.

What you'll do

Build, run, and scale

  • Take ownership of the full stack: backend, React Native app, and cloud infrastructure
  • Get the platform ready for growth: capacity planning, LLM quotas and rate limits, caching, performance, and cost per user
  • Level up observability: logging, monitoring, and alerting good enough to grow with confidence
  • Ship new features, from idea to production
  • Guard reliability: incidents and graceful degradation on the paths users actually feel
  • Manage and improve infrastructure as code (Terraform/OpenTofu, GitLab CI/CD)
  • Bring structure to environments and releases: a clear dev/staging/production setup, a tight release process for server and app (App Store releases via EAS, backward compatibility), and a staging app that runs alongside the production app
  • Be the first responder on incidents, and document the platform (runbooks, deploy and rollback procedures) so the team never depends on a single person
  • Challenge the platform choices themselves: evaluate whether simpler managed services (e.g. Supabase, Railway) can cut operational overhead and costs, and execute that migration if it pays off
  • Pitch your own improvements, from architecture decisions to developer experience

What we're looking for

Builder and operator

  • Experience building and running production systems in Python or Go
  • Cloud engineering experience, preferably GCP; we run hybrid: AWS for compute and data, GCP for AI (Vertex AI)
  • Experience with Terraform (we use OpenTofu) and CI/CD pipelines
  • You work independently, think in solutions, and take ownership of the whole, not just your own piece
  • Affinity with LLMs and AI integrations is a big plus
  • Mobile experience (React Native/Expo) is nice to have, not a must

Our tech stack

The stack serves the product

BackendGo (Gin, River job queue), PostgreSQL, Valkey, with the option to migrate to Python
AppReact Native / Expo (iOS)
AIGoogle Vertex AI (Gemini models, embeddings, speech), custom session and planning pipeline
InfraAWS ECS, Aurora, ElastiCache · GCP for AI · Cloudflare · Tailscale
ToolingOpenTofu (Terraform), GitLab CI, Axiom, Sentry, RevenueCat

You're free to challenge any of this: the stack serves the product, not the other way around.

What we offer

Autonomy with impact

  • Fully remote
  • Salary and equity negotiable
  • Real autonomy and direct impact: you shape how the platform and the team evolve
  • Work on a product that actually moves the needle for people's mental fitness
